Actividades Formativas

National / International Stay

Research stay in an institution different from UCAM (university, research centre or company) that can be national or foreign, and always different from the work centre of the PhD student. PhD students can participate in this activity starting from their admission to the programme. The stay must have a minimum duration of 3 months (480 hours) throughout 3 years for full-time students or throughout 5 years for part-time students. The PhD student, together with his/her supervisor, will evaluate the suitability of the realisation of this type of stays. For this, they will study the possible centres in which such stay can be carried out, either to increase the training of the PhD student or to carry out a transfer of knowledge. Before deciding the participation in this activity, the PhD student must receive the approval of his/her supervisor and the acceptance letter of the host institution.

Presentation at International Congress

Presentation (oral or poster) at an International Congress. The PhD student will make a study on the offer of International Congresses of interest for his/her area of knowledge and, after obtaining the approval of his/her supervisor, he/she will carry out the registration in the International Congress by sending the presentation according to the norms and deadlines that its Scientific Committee has established. PhD students can participate in this activity starting from their admission to the programme. It is estimated that the preparation of the presentation and the attendance at the congress will entail approximately 5 days of work for the student.

It is estimated that the preparation of the presentation and the attendance at the conference will entail approximately 5 days of work for the student. Each PhD student, guided by his/her supervisor/s, will carry out a study of the offer of National Congresses/Conferences of interest for his/her area of knowledge. Research Plan Elaboration

Presentation of the research plan of the PhD student for its assessment by the Academic Commission and its subsequent registration in the Doctoral School. PhD students, regardless of their dedication to the programme, must necessarily carry out this activity during the first 6 months attending the programme. Students’ dedication will be of 25 hours.

Given the relevance of the research plan in the training path of the PhD student, and considering that this is the document that marks the research trajectory of the PhD student, it is very important that this activity is carried out during the first 6 months attending the programme.

PhD students must present the elaborated research plan within the first six months attending the programme for its assessment by the Academic Commission of the Doctoral Programme. In case of negative assessment, the PhD student will have one month to compensate for the indicated deficiencies. This process will be repeated as many times as needed until a positive assessment is obtained.

In any case, the research plan must be perfectly registered in the Doctoral School (EIDUCAM) before the first year attending the programme ends (RD 99/2011).

Research Seminars

Participation in research seminars organised by the different research groups, in which there is a debate on the last advances in the different lines linked to the programme. PhD students can participate in this activity starting from their admission to the programme with a dedication of 21 hours throughout 3 years for the students with full-time dedication and 5 years for students with part-time dedication. The estimated time for each seminar will be of 3 hours/seminar, so the PhD student must compulsorily participate in at least 7 seminars during his/her years of stay in the doctoral programme.

Submission of personal research results and research plan for the following year, in front of the Academic Programme Committee. One activity of this sort, to be carried out during the last month before the finalisation of the academic year, will be planned for each year. The students who are going to submit the thesis in another moment of the year must carry out this activity before the submission. The estimated time for the realisation of the activity is 2 hours/year.

The student will carry out this activity while attending the Doctoral Programme, one time for each academic year.
