Bibliographic Search and Analysis

The main databases for bibliographic material are shown, as well as the main impact indicators to measure the quality of these documents. In addition, the PhD student will acquire the ability to reference scientific works by using referencing standards such as Vancouver or Harvard, as well as to manage databases to configure the bibliographic references (EndNote and Refworks). PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the moment of their admission to the programme.

Presentation at National and International congresses and publication of a Scientific Article

Presentation (oral or poster) at a National or International Congress and publication of a scientific article in a journal of international prestige within their area of knowledge, included in the assessment criteria of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI) to assess six-year periods of research. The PhD students must submit:

  • 1 presentation (oral or poster) at a national or international conference
  • 1 scientific article
  • PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the moment of their admission to the programme.

Presentation of Research Results

Mandatory annual activity in which the PhD student presents the most relevant research results developed in the last year. Students must make as many presentations as the number of years they are registered in the PhD programme, and at least one of these must be given during the PhD Conference organised annually by EIDUCAM. In the first presentation of results students will present their research plan (the one that they have designed together with their supervisor to be developed during their doctoral thesis).

Production and Publication of a Scientific Work

Different types of existing scientific texts are shown, as well as their structure, and the style and writing will be deepened. Knowledge is acquired about the process of publishing a scientific work and also about its dissemination. PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the moment of their admission to the programme.

Research Methodology and Management

The techniques and methodology of scientific research are presented. The student is provided with the necessary knowledge to carry out documented and experimental research. The structure of the research, development and innovation system and of the main aids for research are presented. PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the moment of their admission to the programme.

Research Stay

Research stay at a national or international institution other than UCAM. PhD students may participate in this activity from the second year of their participation in the programme. The stay must have a minimum duration of 3 months.

Seminars I

Participation in seminars organised by the different research groups, in which the results obtained in the different lines of research linked to the programme are presented. Likewise, participation in seminars for entrepreneurs in which the process of creating a company is analysed. They will have to carry out at least 4 research seminars and 1 seminar for entrepreneurs. PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the moment of their admission to the programme.

Statistics and Analysis of Results

Introduction to statistical concepts and methods, with emphasis on exploratory analysis of univariate and bivariate data, sampling and experimental designs, basic probability models, estimation and hypothesis testing in one sample, and comparative studies of two samples. Internships will be carried out using the SPSS software. PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the moment of their admission to the programme.

Workshop for Development of Doctoral Thesis I

Participation in a workshop on the presentation and defence of the Doctoral Thesis. PhD students will be able to participate in this activity from the first year, although it is recommended to do so from the second year onwards.
