In order to guarantee adequate research training for candidates who, despite meeting the admission requirements, do not demonstrate research competence, all doctoral programs will offer a common supplementary training module, Research Methodology.
During the admissions process for doctoral studies, the Academic Committees of each program will be responsible for determining which doctoral candidates must complete and pass this module, taking into account the candidates' prior training. In cases where it is mandatory, the module must be completed within a maximum of one academic year from admission, and passing it is an essential requirement for remaining in the doctoral program.
Cross-disciplinary training may be fully or partially recognized when the candidate demonstrates having acquired equivalent competence in research methodology, according to the following basic criteria:
- a) Accredited research experience, with particular emphasis on the publication of scientific articles in indexed journals or journals of recognized prestige in the corresponding field of knowledge.
- b) Prior postgraduate training, including:
- A research-oriented Master's degree.
- Specialized training acquired through hospital residency programs, provided that such training incorporates verifiable research content and skills.
- c) Doctoral courses completed under regulations prior to those established by Royal Decree 99/2011, provided that their equivalence in terms of workload and training content is demonstrated.
Recognition of this training will require the candidate to submit the corresponding supporting documentation and must be expressly evaluated and approved by the Doctoral Program's Academic Committee, with the decision being recorded in the doctoral candidate's academic record.
Said module shall consist of 10 ECTS credits, which will lay the required foundation for the student to be able to independently address all phases of the scientific research process, as well as to analyse and interpret the data obtained in their scientific research work. Furthermore, the student will approach and develop the scientific method, allowing them to delve into research topics.
ECTS Credit Price: 80€
