Elaboration of Scientific Article or Patent
Publication of an original scientific article or bibliographic review in a prestigious international journal (indexed in JCR and with an impact factor) or a patent. Each doctoral student, guided by their supervisor, will select the journal(s) to which to submit their results, at the appropriate time. Doctoral students may participate in this activity from the moment they are admitted to the program, with a commitment of 160 hours over 4 years for full-time students and 7 years for part-time students. It is mandatory that in the affiliation section, the doctoral student signs the scientific article as “Health Sciences PhD Program, Catholic University of Murcia UCAM, Campus de los Jerónimos nº135, Guadalupe 30107, Murcia, Spain.”
Person Responsible or teaching and and Assessment
Doctoral students will be provided with support material and tutorials through the virtual campus to enable them to carry out this activity in a manner that guarantees the highest level of success. The doctoral student, together with their supervisor/s, will select and organise the results of his/her research work to be published in a journal of international impact.
Proof of participation in this activity will be reflected in the publication of a scientific article in a JCR-listed journal with an impact factor (JIF) or a patent filed with the patent office.
The compulsory training activity Writing a Scientific Article or Patent requires the preparation of a manuscript with a sufficient level of scientific contribution. For this reason, letters to the editor and clinical cases will not be accepted, as they are considered to be short formats or to have limited scope. Original articles or bibliographic reviews will be accepted, provided that they represent a complete piece of research or a critical synthesis of knowledge on the subject of the doctoral thesis. The Academic Committee may evaluate and accept, based on scientific quality and relevance, other formats of publication in indexed journals, such as short communications. In the case of patents, only those already granted and published in an official gazette will be valid; applications that have been submitted or are pending will not be accepted.
The Academic Committee of the Program will, exceptionally, consider accepting an article published in a journal listed in SCOPUS or JCI, when the doctoral student has exhausted all extensions of their stay in the program and can prove that they are unable to publish their results in a JCR journal with an impact factor (JIF).
Participation in the activity will be recorded in LAUREA ACADEMIC. Description of the procedure:
Once the scientific article has been accepted by the journal, the doctoral student must upload the email from the editor confirming this fact and/or a PDF copy of the accepted article to LAUREA ACADEMIC, in the corresponding activity. These two pieces of evidence will serve as proof of completion of the activity.
- The title of the journal and its quality indices must be included: impact factor (JIF) and position in the JCR area.
- The same article cannot be used by more than one doctoral student to complete this activity.
- It is mandatory that in the affiliation section, the doctoral student signs the scientific article as “Health Sciences PhD Program, Catholic University of Murcia UCAM, Campus de los Jerónimos nº135, Guadalupe 30107, Murcia, Spain.”
In the case of a patent application, the document to be submitted will be the Patent Title or the Publication of the Grant in the OEPM.
Evaluation report: The tutor will be responsible for validating in LAUREA ACADEMIC whether or not the activity has been completed.
An article indexed in JCR and with an impact factor (JIF) related to the thesis topic, published in the calendar year in which the student was admitted to the Doctoral Program, will be accepted. To do so, the student must upload the evidence described above to LAUREA ACADEMIC, and the tutor will evaluate and validate it in their case.
Demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize complex ideas by writing a scientific article. Disseminate research results rigorously at the international level.
One article (indexed in JCR) related to the subject of the thesis, published in the calendar year in which the student was admitted to the PhD Programme, will be accepted. To do so, the documentation described above must be uploaded on LAUREA ACADEMIC and the tutor will evaluate and validate said documentation if necessary.
