Mentions PhD
In doctoral programs, mentions are additional recognitions that may appear on the Doctor's title when the thesis meets certain training, academic or external collaboration requirements.
International PhD Mention
The International PhD Mention recognizes that the doctoral thesis has had a significant international dimension. To obtain it, the doctoral candidate must complete one or more research stays outside of Spain, totaling at least three months, at prestigious universities or research centers; if there are multiple stays, at least one must last a minimum of one month. These stays must be endorsed by the supervisor, authorized by the academic committee, and included in the activity log.
Furthermore, part of the thesis—at least the abstract and conclusions—must be written and defended in a language commonly used for scientific communication other than the official languages of Spain, with certain exceptions. The participation of international experts in the thesis reports and on the examination committee is also required.
Industrial PhD Mention
The Industrial PhD Mention recognizes that the thesis has been developed in collaboration with the social and economic fabric of the community, with the aim of knowledge transfer between the university and external entities. It can be applied to projects of industrial, commercial, social, or cultural interest linked to a company, public or private entity, or public administration.
To obtain this distinction, there must be a direct relationship between the thesis and the work carried out by the doctoral candidate at the collaborating entity, formalized in a scientific-technical report approved by the university. An agreement between the university and the entity must also be signed, and the doctoral candidate must have been employed by said entity for at least one year during the development of the thesis, carrying out a substantial part of the project there.
