The proposal to create the UCAM High-Performance Sports Research Center (CIARD-UCAM) is based on the growing societal need in our region for research, assessment, monitoring, and consulting on athletic performance levels.
The Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) has a significant and growing research activity in the field of high-performance sports, energized in recent years by the addition of new research groups. In particular, some of these groups, such as the Training Optimization, Sports Performance, and Physical Conditioning group, coordinated by the Biomechanics Laboratory, are international leaders in their field. Therefore, the aim is to foster collaboration among the various leading UCAM research groups related to high-performance sports.
In this context, this proposal to establish CIARD-UCAM seeks to create a leading research infrastructure, located in the Region of Murcia, with the ambition of becoming an international center of excellence. The existing members are the foundation for establishing a top-tier center with the necessary resources to create new lines of research and further develop existing ones.
The research center currently hosts elite athletes such as Mireia Belmonte (swimming), David Cal (canoeing), and Nicolás Almagro (tennis), among more than 60 sponsored Olympians, as well as the UCAM Murcia CB (ACB League) and UCAM Murcia CF (Second Division B) teams, to assist in their training and enhance their high-performance athletic abilities.
General objectives of CIARD-UCAM
- To strengthen and enhance current lines of research in High-Performance Sport.
- To maintain the center's research groups as international leaders in their respective fields.
- To provide opportunities for interaction among existing groups.
